Philadelphia (9-4 SU, 6-7 ATS) moved into a half-game lead in the division thanks to a 30-27 win at the suddenly tough Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles didn’t cover as 3 ½-point favorites, but they really didn’t care.
New York (9-4 SU, 7-6 ATS) had a magical mystery tour experience playing against Minnesota. The game was moved to Detroit after the Vikings’ Metrodome had its roof collapse. Minnesota was without quarterback Brett Favre (shoulder) and the G-Men won 21-3. That means it’s all tied atop the NFC East.
New York is a three-point home favorite.
Who would have thought that the all-Missouri battle between St. Louis and Kansas City would be for playoff spots? St. Louis (6-7 SU, 9-4 ATS) is incredibly tied with Seattle for first place in the NFC West. Kansas City (8-5 SU, 7-6 ATS) is still in first in the AFC West despite losing 31-0 at San Diego last week. Quarterback Matt Cassel sat out that game (appendix) and his status is holding up the spread here.
The New York Jets (9-4 SU, 7-6 ATS) suddenly have a two-game losing streak after losses at New England (45-3) and home to Miami (10-6). Things don’t get any easier having to play the rugged Pittsburgh Steelers (10-3 SU, 8-5 ATS) in their place. The Steelers have won four straight, allowing just nine PPG. Pitt is six-point home chalk.
Remember the week starts Thursday with San Diego (7-6 SU, 7-6 ATS) 8 ½-point home favorites over San Francisco (5-8 SU, 5-8 ATS). The Chargers are only a game back of Kansas City after that 31-0 victory.
San Fran is only a game out of the horrid NFC West after crushing Seattle 40-21 in the Bay Area. Quarterback Alex Smith is the starter again and played well last week.
