NFL Picks: 2010 Odds to Win NFL MVP (as of 11/4/10)

MVP Update (as of 10/13/10)

Ready to see how the best MVP candidates in the NFL are doing? Check out our odds analysis of the 2010 MVP odds for the best players in the NFL!

Peyton Manning, Indianapolis Colts: What more does Manning really have to do to prove that he should be the league’s MVP? It doesn’t really matter who is hurt and who has to get slotted into the lineup, as the Sheriff is always in control of his offense. Heck, WR Blair White has been in the fold a bit, while now TE Jacob Tamme has already stepped into the role of TE Dallas Clark, who is out for the season. The end result through seven games? Manning has 2,184 yards passing, good enough for No. 4 in the league, while he is just one off of the pace in the touchdown department as well with 15.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers: Rodgers certainly didn’t have anything to do with last week’s 9-0 win over the New York Jets last week, but it’s hard to argue with the fact that he has to be a candidate to win the MVP Award for as long as the Packers stay in the postseason picture. Rodgers has thrown for 2,011 yards this year, and he is really the only offensive threat that this team has to work with, especially with RB Ryan Grant not playing for the rest of the year.

Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans: Johnson’s streak of 100+ yard rushing games on the road ended after eight games, which was the second longest such streak in the history of the NFL. Johnson clearly hasn’t been the same back that he was last season when he rumbled for 2,006 yards, but he is still on pace for over 1,400 yards and 16 TDs this season. The former East Carolina Pirate knows that he is going to have the load put on his shoulders if Tennessee is going to make the playoffs, but at least this year, it has figured out how to win five games in the first eight of the season… not two…

Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings: Statistically speaking, Peterson is going to probably be the league’s top candidate for this award. He has rushed for 776 yards and seems to be on pace for a second rushing title in his first four years in the NFL. Though he only has six TDs, he is about to become a 1,000 yard man, most likely in this week. “Purple Jesus” has 970 total yards through seven games this year, and he is averaging a whopping 26.7 touches per game, which would leave him with 427 touches for the season if he were to keep on that pace. With QB Brett Favre struggling and the team sinking, Peterson might not have much of a choice but to keep his name in the MVP race.

Matt Schaub, Houston Texans: Though RB Arian Foster is the second leading rusher in the NFL, it is Schaub that needs to really step up his game to be able to lead the Texans to the playoffs for the first time in league history. He really looked like a deer in headlights trying to get past the front line of the Colts on MNF last week, and if that keeps up and Houston keeps losing, Schaub’s name won’t be anywhere near this MVP list.

Tom Brady, New England Patriots: Brady seems like a heck of a choice for the MVP Award still, and it largely is because he, just like Manning, has found ways to work with whatever tools he is given. No one is accusing RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis or RB Danny Woodhead of being All-Stars, nor does anyone think that WR Deion Branch, WR Wes Welker, WR Julian Edelman, and WR Brandon Tate should be winning the Super Bowl either. However, one thing is absolutely undeniable, and that’s that the Pats have the best record in football. Brady is clearly the best player on the best team in the league.
