NBA Sports Betting Picks: New Jersey Nets at Orlando Magic

In a Friday night NBA matchup the New Jersey Nets will play on the road against the suddenly high scoring Orlando Magic. The latest NBA odds posted by Diamond Sports International (DSI) have the Magic listed as 16 point favorites over the up and coming Nets.
After getting smashed by the Miami Heat many experts questioned the ability of the Magic to put up points in a game. They answered all the critics with a resounding 128-86 over the injury ravaged Minnesota Timberwolves. Vince Carter led the way by scoring 20 points, but six other players racked up double digits in the points column. Now the Magic will look to try and repeat that performance against the New Jersey Nets.
The Nets are 2-2 on the season which is a pretty good start considering last year’s performance. The Nets beat the Kings and the Pistons but struggled when they played a superior team as they were crushed by the Heat by a final score of 101-78. Now they look to redeem themselves by taking a shot at Orlando.
In the NBA it is nearly impossible to post back to back games with high output from everyone on the roster. While the Magic are the superior team, the high scoring output from the previous game has inflated the line for this game.
The Nets are 5-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last six games as a road underdog of 11.0 or greater and 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games against a team with a home winning percentage of greater than .600. The Nets will not pull off the upset, but this is too many points to expect the Magic to cover. The young and talented Nets will hang around in this game and the value is in taking the points with the road underdog.

Coach could leave Celts for family.(Sports)
The Boston Herald April 14, 2010 | Bulpett, Steve Byline: STEVE BULPETT CHICAGO – It is quite possible Doc Rivers is nearing the end of his run as coach of the Celtics. Sources have told the Herald that he is leaning toward leaving the bench after this season, but Rivers insisted yesterday no final decision has been made.
There has been similar speculation in the past, but this time the planets seem better aligned for a move. One of Rivers’ sons, Jeremiah, will be a senior next season on the Indiana University hoop team and daughter Callie, a volleyball star, will be in her final year at the University of Florida. Another son, Austin, is a top basketball prospect who will be finishing high school.
Even in the midst of a brutal NBA schedule, Rivers makes several detours to watch his kids play, and it is no secret he would like to be there for them on a more consistent basis. go to website nba schedule 2012
There also is the fact the Celtics appear headed for some major offseason issues. While the club still is hoping for a strong playoff run, there will have to be some measure of reconstruction this summer.
Rivers responded to the questions yesterday by acknowledging the pull toward his family in Orlando.
“Part of it is true,” Rivers said of the speculation. “Every year I sit down in the middle of the summer and I have a family discussion. We talk about what we want to do. That’s nothing new, but every year it gets stronger and stronger. And I think people are making some common sense reads. I’ve got three seniors next year, two in college and one in high school. That’s important to me. We’re all family men. We all have kids.
“Every year you’ve got to weigh what’s best for your kids. That’s just the way it is. But, I don’t get into it now. I don’t talk about it. I’ve never told anyone one way or the other, and that’s how it’s always been.” Rivers even avoided the subject when general manager Danny Ainge wanted to negotiate a contract extension. The coach has one year left on his deal, but he has thus far passed on the chance for a new pact.
“Danny already brought it up, and I told him I didn’t want to talk about it,” Rivers said. “Danny came to me early in the year, and I said I didn’t think it was fair to the players for the coach to be talking about his contract during a season. He said, `Well, I think we need to do something,’ and I said, `Well, we’ve got all summer.’ ” Time is on Rivers’ side in the larger sense, as well. At 48, he is still a young man in the coaching profession. If he takes a year or two away from the bench and perhaps does a little TV work to stay involved, his stock would only rise. He would be mentioned for every coaching vacancy and would be able to pick a situation that best suits him down the line. in our site nba schedule 2012
But he’s not looking to go anywhere right now.
“The one I will say is I’m committed to Boston,” Rivers said. “It’s either stay with the Celtics or I decide I need to stay more with the family.” And as for how things will be in Boston beyond this season, Rivers doesn’t necessarily believe a full reconstruction is required.
“Well, I don’t really think anybody knows what next year’s going to be,” he said. “Kevin (Garnett)’s going to be healthier next year, because it’s going to be a year further away from the surgery. Hopefully Ray (Allen) will be back, and Paul (Pierce) will still be a force. You never know what can happen with trades and free agency.
“So I think the demise of the Celtics may be greatly exaggerated. People think this is it, and I don’t think anyone in our office feels that way. But as far as I’m concerned, I can tell you I try never to make a decision in the season. That’s the worst time. You’re emotional either way about it.” – sbulpett@bostonherald.com Bulpett, Steve
