The Clemson Tigers and Miami Hurricanes have met in NCAA football betting action three times in their illustrious histories. Three times the games have gone overtime. Three times the road team has left victorious. On Saturday afternoon, the Tigers will look to reverse that trend and upset the Canes in Death Valley.
The Hurricanes certainly have had one heck of a road to reach this point in the season. After an opening week blowout of the Florida A&M Rattlers, they have had to go to the Horseshoe to tangle with the Ohio State Buckeyes and to the Steel City to fight it out with the Pitt Panthers. The trip to Death Valley almost seems like a walk in the park… Almost… QB Jacory Harris has thrown six picks in his L/2 games, a number which is incredibly inexcusable at this level, especially against this type of competition. The Canes survived last week’s trip to Pittsburgh thanks to a defense that kept the Panthers without a single first down for the entire first half of play. Save allowing 36 points to Ohio State, the Miami ‘D’ has only given up three points all season long. Miami has reportedly had some major issues getting practice in this week properly, which could come back to haunt it when push really comes to shove in Death Valley.
It is arguable that the Tigers would be 3-0 SU and ATS and in the Top 25 right now if they could just have kicked a field goal against Auburn two weeks ago. As it is, they failed and now have to face an uphill battle to get back amongst the top teams in the land. It hasn’t been a particularly sterling year for Clemson, but there are plenty of good signs that this could be a year in which the BCS is a reasonable possibility. RB Andre Ellington has done a fantastic job filling in for the departed RB CJ Spiller. He has accounted for 273 rushing yards and 52 more receiving, totaling four TDs. His 7.4 yards per carry average makes him look like Spiller at times, and if that continues to be the case, Ellington can break games open against anyone in the country. QB Kyle Parker has a solid 6/1 TD/INT ratio this year, but aside from that, his numbers aren’t all that great. He has completed just 35-of-60 passes on the year for 504 yards, an average of 8.4 yards per attempt.

We’re not overly thrilled with either of these teams right now, but we know that NCAA football betting action in Death Valley is usually a tomb for the opposition. Miami does have an OT win there in its history, but we tend to think that this test is just going to be too tough to pass, especially with the conditions in South Florida weather wise this weekend. Go with the Tigers for you NCAA football free pick this weekend.
