Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans Free Pick and Preview

Jacksonville Jaguars
(6-5, 7-4 ATS)

Tennessee Titans
(5-6, 5-6 ATS)

The Jacksonville Jaguars are currently still the leaders of the AFC South, but they are going to be in some bad shape if they can’t put away the Tennessee Titans in one of Sunday’s premier NFL betting battles.

The Jags just don’t feel like a team that is ready to make the playoffs this year, but they have done a great job covering the NFL odds in recent weeks. Jacksonville has covered four in a row after dropping four out of six ATS from Week 2 through Week 8. WR Mike Sims Walker has been added to the injury problems for the Jaguars this week, as he is probably out of the lineup. That means more work for WR Mike Thomas, who leads the team with 52 catches, 618 yards, and three scores. On the ground, RB Maurice Jones-Drew is likely to become a 1,000 yard rusher this week. He has 991 yards and four TDs on the season. QB David Garrard is probably having the best year of his career, but he still has thrown 11 INTs on the campaign, which is too many for a man that has made just ten starts. It’s also not helping Jacksonville’s case any that it ranks No. 25 in total defense at 375.4 yards per game and No. 27 in scoring at 26.7 points per game.

Last season, QB Kerry Collins had his chance to lead the Titans as the team’s starting quarterback, but he only lasted six games and went 0-6 to show for his work before QB Vince Young took over. Now, with Tennessee at 5-6 and entering this week tied for last place in the AFC South, Collins has his chance once again. He should be in the starting lineup after QB Rusty Smith guided the team in a horrifying 20-0 loss to the Houston Texans last week. Collins can’t do much worse this year than the rest of the team has done, as this squad is averaging just over 180 yards per game with its aerial assault, ranking second to last in the NFL. Collins, at the tail end of his career, doesn’t nearly have the mobility of Young, so we can probably expect to see more out of RB Chris Johnson. Johnson only accounted for nine total yards of offense last week in the shutout loss, keeping him under the 1,000 yard mark for the season 11 games in. Needless to say, Johnson won’t get to the 2,000 yard barrier again this year, but he still has nothing to be ashamed of at 973 yards and nine TDs on the campaign.

LP Field is always a nightmare to go into, and the Titans realize that this is their last gasp on the season. You beat this team by throwing the football, not be running it, and unless Garrard can come up with a big day, Collins should be able to do enough offensively to take care of Jacksonville’s deficiencies.
