Georgia Bulldogs vs. Kentucky Wildcats Preview and Pick

Georgia Bulldogs
(14-5, 7-8 ATS)

Kentucky Wildcats
(15-4, 8-6 ATS)

SEC NCAA basketball betting action heads to Rupp Arena on Saturday afternoon, as the Georgia Bulldogs look for a tremendous scalp for the second time this season, as they look for the season sweep against the Kentucky Wildcats.

UGA knows that it has been very lucky this year, but it has also been very good as well. The Bulldogs snared a victory against these Wildcats to start the SEC season, but since that point, they are just 2-3 in SEC play, including the loss in overtime to the Florida Gators at home this past week. Offensively, the Dawgs have been barking in a loud way, as they have at least 86 points scored in three of their last four games. The talent bridge in this game is going to be apparent though, especially potentially on the glass. Averaging 37.9 rebounds per game really isn’t good enough at this level, though Georgia is winning the battle on the glass by over eight rebounds per game. The Bulldogs also have to do significantly better at the charity stripe, as the team is only connecting on 67.6 percent of its free throws, ranking No. 202 in the nation. Keep a close eye on both Travis Leslie and Trey Thompkins. These are the two highest point scorers on the team. Both put up at least 20 points against Florida, but both also played 47 minutes in the loss.

Kentucky continues to lose games on the road in the SEC, but thus far this year at home, it really has been fantastic. You know that Head Coach John Calipari and company know that they have a lot of work to do to avenge an earlier loss this year against the Dawgs, as the way that they played in that first game of the SEC season was disgusting. The Wildcats are putting up 78.6 points per game this year, one of the top marks in the SEC and No. 24 in the country. Terrence Jones is putting up 18.3 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, and he needs to make sure that he has a great game in the paint against an undersized Bulldogs team. Brandon Knight is one of the top guards on this team, but he still has a lot of learning to do on the job. He is averaging 17.6 points per game this year, and he is leading the team with 71 assists. Both Doron Lamb and Darius Miller are double digit point scorers to boot, while DeAndre Liggins and Josh Harrellson have been putting in some quality minutes. The big problem is that there is no one else on this team that Calipari really trusts, and at times, this really hurts Big Blue.

Kentucky might be the more talented team in this game, but we know that Georgia has a lot of confidence about the way that it can play against the Cats, having already won once this year. The Wildcats will win this game and get their revenge, but it won’t be by that healthy of a margin. The stingy Bulldogs should beat the NCAA basketball odds in this one.
