We just love to see the fact that the Jets got back to their ground game last week against the Indianapolis Colts. They were really built by Head Coach Rex Ryan as a team that was run first and pass only when needed, and they kind of got away from that this year just a tad. QB Mark Sanchez threw the ball 507 times in the regular season, which accounted for more carries than RB LaDainian Tomlinson and RB Shonn Greene had combined. The roles were once again reversed last week, as LT and Greene combined for 35 carries, while Sanchez only had 31 passes. As a result, New York had 23 first downs and could do what it wanted to for the majority of the game. The difference between this year’s club and the one that was beaten in the AFC Championship Game by the Colts is that Sanchez can make throws when called upon. Though he only went 18-of-31 for 189 yards and a TD in the win against Indy, he threw an 18 yard pass with the game on the line to WR Braylon Edwards, which set up the game winning score. Tomlinson and Greene combined for 152 yards on the ground, and LT had both TDs on the day.

The Pats are finally ready to get started in the playoffs this year, as they will have had the longest layoff of any team to get ready for its first test of the postseason. QB Tom Brady is expected to be named the league’s MVP this year after throwing for 3,900 yards and 36 TDs against just four picks. He led the league’s top offense in terms of scoring, as New England was the only team that averaged more than 30 points per game on the season, and it did so with a bunch of wide receivers that probably wouldn’t be starters on most other teams. No one had even 850 receiving yards this year, but Brady did make sure that four different players had at least 42 receptions and at least 540 yards on the campaign. Rookie TEs Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski made a huge difference, combining to catch 87 passes for 1,109 yards, and 16 scores in 2010. On the ground, RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis had his first 1,000 yard campaign, rushing for 1,008 yards and 13 TDs.

Last week, we lived and died with the Jets, and this week, we are going to do the exact same thing. There is a real memory in the back of New York’s mind about that 45-3 loss here just over a month ago, and it is determined to make sure that doesn’t happen again. We’re not so sure about the outright upset, but we do think that the Jets are going to at least hang within the nine in this one.
