Big East betting action is back and better than ever on Tuesday night from Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center in South Bend, as the eyes of Touchdown Jesus will be on the hardwood for the clash between the Connecticut Huskies and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
The conversation and the hopes for beating the college basketball odds for the Huskies begin and end with Kemba Walker. Walker is averaging a stunning 26.7 points per game this year, and he is well on his way to becoming an absolutely superstar, not just here in Storrs, but at the next level in the NBA as well. The streaky guard has scored at least 18 points in every single game he has played this season, and that 18 points scored against the Stony Brook Sea Wolves marked the only time this year that he was held under 20 points. Walker already has games of 24 and 31 points in Big East play this year, and he has only sat for seven of the 85 minutes played. He also has a triple-double to his credit this season as well. If there is another man that is going to help him out in this one, it is Alex Oriakhi, who is very quietly putting together a nice year in the post for Head Coach Jim Calhoun. Oriakhi is averaging 11.3 points per game, making him the team’s second leading scorer, and he is also tops in rebounding at 8.6 per night.
Notre Dame has really been your typical Big East team this year, going 1-0 at home against a Georgetown Hoyas team that is probably better than it is and 0-1 on the road in conference. Unlike UConn, which gets its scoring from really just one primary source, Head Coach Mike Bray makes sure that he gets the ball all over the court. There are five different men that are averaging at least 9.8 points per game, led by Tim Abromaitis at 16.3 points per game. Ben Hansbrough can really light it up from the outside, where is shooting 45.5 percent for the season. He is second on the team in scoring at 15.2 points per game. Don’t forget about the men on the inside though, as both Carlton Scott and Tyrone Nash have double-double capabilities on a nightly basis. The Fighting Irish are averaging 78.8 points per game this year, one of the top marks in the Big East. This ranks them No. 31 in the land as well.

Once again, we know that this one is going to go the same sort of way as most of the Big East NCAA basketball betting encounters. Home teams win. Road teams lose. The only question is whether the Irish can win this one by at least six points. We tend to believe that they get the job done in spite of the fact that Walker is inevitably going to have another big time performance.
