Cincinnati Bengals Vs Miami Dolphins NFL Pick

The Cincinnati Bengals (2-4) will try to end a three-game losing streak on Sunday when they host the Miami Dolphins (3-3) in a key AFC matchup.  The Bengals  (-2 @ Diamond Sportsbook) seemed to return to form following a 38-24 loss at New England in the season opener by winning two straight games against Baltimore and Carolina, but their defense has allowed progressively more points in losing three in a row since then.

Three of Cincinnati’s last four games have been on the road along with four of the team’s first six this season, so returning home might be just the cure.  The Bengals have given up an average of nearly 29 points in their last three games, capped by a 39-32 loss at Atlanta last week.  All of those games have gone OVER the total, but their two home games have averaged 35 points.

The good news for Cincy is that the offense has also increased in each of the last three games, including a season high against the Falcons.  Quarterback Carson Palmer exploded for 412 passing yards and three touchdowns, throwing for scores to Chad Ochocinco, Jordan Shipley and Terrell Owens.  That trio of Ochocinco, Shipley and Owens hauled in a combined 25 passes between them for 327 of those yards and will be matching up against a Miami secondary that is allowing 216.5 yards per game through the air.

The Dolphins could be offensively challenged against the Bengals despite the aforementioned woes because they have scored 23 points or less in each of their six games this season.  They are coming off a controversial 23-22 home loss to Pittsburgh last week in which Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger fumbled at the goal line yet got to keep possession of the ball on fourth down to kick the game-winning field goal even though video evidence showed otherwise.

Despite an 0-3 record at home, Miami has somehow found a way to go a perfect 3-0 on the road.  All three road wins have been decided by five points or less though, with the Dolphins defense limiting the opposition to 13.3 points per game.  Their last road win came in overtime at Green Bay two weeks ago, as kicker Dan Carpenter connected on a 44-yard field goal for a 23-20 victory.

Miami will need to get the running game going again after totaling a season-low 64 rushing yards against Pittsburgh last week.  Cincinnati’s defense is surrendering 118 yards per game on the ground and might have trouble stopping Dolphins Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams.

The teams have met just twice since 2000 with the Bengals winning both games.  Before that, the Dolphins had won nine straight meetings, and they are 6-1 against the spread in the last seven overall.  The OVER is 3-1 in the last four games between the teams.

Exercise Can Ward Off Gallstones

AP Online September 8, 1999 | JANET McCONNAUGHEY, Associated Press Writer JANET McCONNAUGHEY, Associated Press Writer AP Online 09-08-1999 Exercise Can Ward Off Gallstones

Exercise isn’t just good for the heart — your gall bladder will thank you, too.

Women who exercise two to three hours a week cut their risk of excruciatingly painful gallstones by nearly one-third compared with women who don’t exercise at all, according to a study at the Harvard School of Public Health.

The usual treatment for painful gallstones is removal of the gall bladder, and about 500,000 Americans, two-thirds of them women, have their gall bladders taken out each year.

The operations and hospitalization cost more than $5 billion a year, and the problem is the most common and costly digestive disease requiring hospitalization, according to the National Institutes of Health. site gall bladder surgery

An earlier study by the same group looked only at men, even though women are twice as likely to develop gallstones. This study, published in Thursday’s New England Journal of Medicine, confirmed the earlier findings.

The researchers, led by Dr. Michael F. Leitzmann, looked at 60,290 women who were ages 40 to 65 in 1986 and had no history of gallstone disease. The women filled in surveys every two years about their activity. gallbladdersurgerynow.com gall bladder surgery

Overall, women who exercised about 30 minutes a day cut their risk of gall bladder surgery by 31 percent.

Obesity increases the risk of gallstones, as does rapid weight loss. But even after the researchers took obesity and recent weight changes into account, the exercisers were still 20 percent less likely to undergo gall bladder surgery.

The researchers theorize that exercise may reduce the cholesterol content of bile, the digestive juice stored in the gall bladder. That could reduce the number of gallstones, since 80 percent of the gallstones in this country are solid cholesterol.

Also, people who exercise have more active large intestines and better levels of blood sugar and insulin, all of which may reduce the risk of gallstones.

Women who sit for 41 to 60 hours a week — that’s most women with desk jobs — were found to be 42 percent more likely to need their gall bladders removed than those who spend six hours or less sitting down.

At more than 60 hours a week, the risk skyrockets: A woman is 132 times as likely to need gall bladder surgery as someone who spends most of her waking hours on her feet.

“I think many diseases that are problems for us in the United States are lifestyle-oriented,” said Dr. Joe Hines, a professor at UCLA Medical School. “I think this is another study which points out the importance of Americans being more physically active.”

Dr. Rudra Rai, a professor of gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins University, said the results aren’t surprising, but the study was the first he has seen to sort the effects of exercise out from a vast array of other factors, such as weight, age, hormone replacement therapy, diabetes, smoking, alcohol and caffeine.
