There are nothing but great things to say about the Spurs this year, as they are on a pace to win 73 games and really have virtually no flaws. They are shooting 47.6 percent from the field as a team, and Head Coach Gregg Popovich has gotten them to buy into the mindset that this is no longer a squad that has to work things down into the post to score. Averaging 106.9 points per game is one of the best marks in the league, while shooting 40.9 percent from downtown is tops in the NBA. San Antonio is on a ten game winning streak after surviving three very tough challenges at home. Its last five games have all been decided by eight points or fewer. It’s still strange to think that Tim Duncan is the fourth leading scorer on this team at just 14.0 points and 9.7 boards per night. He’s going to have a horrible matchup tonight against the bigs of the Magic, but there might not be anyone on the perimeter that can guard Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. These two have been fantastic all season long, averaging 19.8 and 17.7 points per game respectively. Even Richard Jefferson is in on the act, averaging 14.2 points per night.

We’re still trying to make heads or tails out of what the Magic have done in this last week, and odds have it, Head Coach Stan Van Gundy is still really trying to figure it out as well. This is a team that has lost four straight and eight out of nine, and still has a visit from the Boston Celtics coming up this weekend when this one is over with. These newcomers just haven’t gotten into their groove quite yet. Jason Richardson, who was immediately expected to come in and start dropping 20 points per night on everyone, only has 19 total points in two games, while Hedo Turkoglu only has 17 points and seven boards in two games. Gilbert Arenas is shooting just 17.6 percent from the floor and has had two nauseating performances off of the bench. The man that has to be getting very frustrated right now is Dwight Howard. Over the course of the last three games, Howard has had at least 19 points and at least 20 boards in all three, and he has averaged 23.7 points and 21.0 boards per game. However, the team is still losing, and he knows that he has his ticket out of town in two years if he wants it. Orlando cannot afford to let “Superman” get away, and more losses like this one would be very, very costly.

There’s just no reasoning for the Spurs to be dogs in this game. Orlando just hasn’t played well enough to justify it. Perhaps two weeks ago, we could have made that argument, but now, there just isn’t one there. If the Magic beat us, they beat us. But the way that they have been playing of late, there’s no way that they should be laying points against the team that has the best record in the NBA.
