The Dallas Mavericks recently had their 12 game winning streak stopped, but they’ll be back at it once again on Wednesday night in NBA betting action against the Portland Trail Blazers, who are looking to claw their way back to .500.

Needless to say, this has been a very, very frustrating season, particularly on the road for the Blazers. They are just 5-10 SU and 5-8-2 ATS in 15 roadies, and their offense has been absolutely dreadful at just 93.9 points per game this year. Though this is one of the best defensive squads in the Western Conference, you aren’t beating teams on a regular basis with these types of scoring numbers on a regular basis. It has been an awful year, relatively speaking, for G Brandon Roy, who is only averaging 17.2 points per game, and once again, he is dealing with a knee injury that is limiting his minutes and productivity. The good news is that G Wesley Matthews is really stepping up at 15.0 points per game and F LaMarcus Aldridge is doing his share as well at 17.4 points and 7.8 boards per game, but these numbers just don’t stack up for a team that is supposed to be contending in the Western Conference. After winning four straight games, Portland has dropped two in a row, scoring just 78 and 73 points respectively in those losses to the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs.

The argument could really be made that this is the best team in the NBA, but the Mavs know that they are going to have their work cut out for them to run down the San Antonio Spurs, who are on pace to win 71 games this year. There are times that you just lose games, and that’s what happened against the Milwaukee Bucks a few nights ago. There is certainly nothing to panic about in Big D, as this starting five is one of the most dynamic in the game, and being able to pull F Shawn Marion and G Jason Terry off of the bench probably makes this the deepest team in the league as well. Dallas is holding teams to just 93.0 points per game this year, and the offense, which is clearly slowing games down a lot more than it is used to, is shooting 47.8 percent from the floor, the third best mark in the league. As always, we have to keep a very close eye on F Dirk Nowitzki, who is averaging 25.2 points and 7.8 boards per game this year. However, the man that might be worth watching in this one is C Tyson Chandler, who is averaging 8.5 points and 9.0 boards. He is going to be going up against a very undersized Portland team and could be good for a double-double in this one if he stays out of foul trouble.

Simply put, the oddsmakers are putting too much emphasis on what they have seen from the Blazers in recent years, not in recent games. This is a team that just doesn’t look all that great right now, and unless things are going to magically change, the Mavericks are going to get back on the horse on Wednesday night and post another double digit victory.
