NFL Football Betting Preview Betus.com betting line – Jets -7, 41 O/U A pair of teams treading at the .500 mark on the year will square off first thing Sunday afternoon when the Jacksonville Jaguars travel to take on the New York Jets at 1:00 eastern time. The Jaguars are trying to turn the corner after battling back from a 0-2 start and they just may be able to get back on path to a winning record as the Jets have really struggled losing 4 of their last 5 games. However, Jacksonville has been pretty inconsistent in performance this year and they are just 1-3 on the road this season. The question is which team will right the ship this Sunday? The Jets defense has really carried the team all year and they have been fairly impressive for the most part ranking 2nd in the NFL slightly behind the Giants allowing just 273 yards per game. However, the defense gave up 27 points on average in both losses to Miami and New Orleans. The defense has been subject to giving up those types of points against good defenses and that could spell trouble if the Jaguars can come out firing. The main aspect the Jets must be able to stop is the Jacksonville rushing offense. The Jaguars are establishing 140 yards per game on the ground and the offense is extremely effective when they run the ball well. If the Jets defense can help keep the ground game from controlling the game, then they should have a solid defensive performance as they have many times this year. The Jaguars offense has produced a respectable 360 yards per game behind which ranks in the top 10 of the NFL, but have only managed 19 points per game from that production. Running back Maurice Jones-Drew has carried the ball very well in recent weeks. Jones-Drew is averaging 135 yards per game over the last 3 contests giving the offense a much needed boost after a slow start to the season. The Jaguars have won 6 of the last 7 games when Jones-Drew reached the century mark and if can continue to have good games the Jaguars will have some promising hope to the second half of the season. QB David Garrard is having a fairly average season completing 60% passing with 6 scores and 5 picks. The passing game has not been exactly dominated, but when they can get WR Mike Sims-Walker involved with some big plays they usually fair well. Jacksonville must come out with a strong offensive performance and jump on the Jets defense this Sunday. If New York’s defense gains confidence early, it could be a frustrating day for the offense. The Jets offense is still under the command of rookie Mark Sanchez. Sanchez started off the year solid, but had some horrific performances against the Saints and Bills throwing a combined 8 interceptions and 0 touchdowns. The simple fact is the New York has had to rely on the passing game playing from behind in recent weeks. When that happens, Sanchez has a lot of pressure and perhaps not the experience yet to compromise. However, if the Jets get out front they are a tough team to catch with the defense and the running game led by tailback Thomas Jones. Jones has posted 3 straight 100 yards performances including 210 yards in their loss to Buffalo. Jones can really help the offense if he can establish the running game early and work the pass in later. If that does not happen, the Jaguars could inflict a lot additional pressure on Sanchez and the passing game. Pick – Jaguars +7
