College basketball is here and when betting college hoops over the years I have noticed several line spots over the years. First let me explain what a line spot is. A line spot is a line that looks to be too good to be true. Other handicappers call this a trap, or a stinky line, or even too good to be true line. I call it a line spot and will refer to it as this throughout the article.

One of my favorite line spots in college hoops has to deal with ranked teams playing unranked teams. The line has to favor the unranked team. So the line spot to look for is whenever an unranked team is favored over a ranked team. This looks too good to be true because reasonable thinking would dictate that the ranked team is better than the unranked team, yet somehow, someway the ranked team is giving points.

This will usually draw action towards the ranked team but in reality the play is on the unranked team. Vegas knows what they are doing and when they set a line like this it is for good reason. This is not foolproof or 100% correct and nothing in sports betting is, but it seems like more than not, the unranked team will win and cover the number. This is a perfect example of a team that is too good to be true.

This also works when a team that is ranked lower than another team is favored over a team that is ranked higher than they are. So if the #24th ranked team in the country is favored over the #20th team in the country you know that is a line spot to be noticed. The correct wager is on the #24th ranked team in the country. Keep in mind this should not be used blindly and should be used in conjunction with other handicapping methods. Keep this in mind and the sports bettor will be gin to see the profits build up!
