The only thing we know about the West is the Los Angeles Lakers are the top seed and will face No. 8 Oklahoma City. It’s been an incredible year for Kevin Durant and the Thunder, but this looks like an awfully short series due to their inexperience.
Seeds two through seven are all undecided heading into tonight. Here are the key games.
San Antonio at Dallas – 8 pm ET
Dallas gets the all-important No. 2 seed with a win, getting to avoid the Lakers until the conference finals. Dallas can also get the No. 2 spot with a Utah loss versus Phoenix.
San Antonio is the No. 7 seed and can move up to No. 6 with a win, plus a Portland loss.
Phoenix at Utah – 10:30 pm ET
Phoenix has clinched at least the No. 4 seed and home-court advantage in the first round. They will be the No. 3 if they win this game.
Utah clinches the No. 3 spot if they win. They can still get the No. 2 if they win and Dallas loses to San Antonio. Utah will be the fifth spot if they lose.
Golden State (+9) at Portland – 10:30 pm ET
Portland gets the No. 6 seed with a win or a San Antonio loss. Otherwise they’re the No. 7. They should know the outcome of the San Antonio game before they play.
Guard Brandon Roy has a torn meniscus in his knee. He’s out for this game and probably longer. That’s a huge blow to a franchise that already lost its top two centers for the year.
