The San Diego Padres head to San Francisco trying to turn things around after losing three straight at home over the weekend to Colorado. The Padres have seen their National League Wild Card lead slip to just a half game over Philadelphia. They now trail Arizona by 2.5 for the National League West lead. The Padres have their last seven games of the season on the road beginning in San Francisco and finishing up in Milwaukee. The Phillies get their last six games at home. "Obviously, the goal is to win every game from here on out," San Diego second baseman Marcus Giles said, "We control our own destiny, that's the biggest thing. We're still in first, still up by half a game. Just don't lose." SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the favored Padres on the Road.
San Diego is also not completely healthy. They may be without Milton Bradley and Mike Cameron as they start the road trip. The good news for San Diego is that they have won their last eight games against San Francisco. Chris Young goes for San Diego tonight. He is 9-7 with a 2.83 ERA on the season but has not won in over two months. Young was 9-3 and on July 24th but went on the DL and has not been the same since. He is 0-4 with a 5.61 ERA in eight games. Young is 1-0 with a 2.75 ERA in three games against San Francisco this year.
The Giants have lost eight of their last 11 games but they did win last night.
Barry Zito gets the start tonight for San Francisco. He is 9-13 with a 4.56 ERA on the season. He has never beaten the Padres in his career. He is also coming off a bad start last week where he gave up five runs and nine hits in just over four innings against Arizona. Zito is 0-2 with a 3.26 ERA in five starts against the Padres.
