Opening Line: Cubs PK, Total 8 Under (-115)

The Chicago Cubs continue their series with the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night as Rich Hill matches up against Barry Zito. Hill comes into the game at 7-7 with an ERA of 3.73 for the Cubs while Zito is 9-11 on the season with an ERA of 4.88 for the Giants. SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the Cubs on the Road.

Both of Wednesday’s starters are coming off good outings. Hill beat the Cardinals in his last start as he gave up one run on three hits over seven innings. He also struck out seven. Zito was superb in this last outing against the Marlins holding them to just one hit in seven innings. He struck out five and walked only two. Zito faced the Cubs one other time this season, picking up the win on July 17 after allowing one earned run and striking out eight in seven innings.

The Cubs will be getting Cliff Floyd back into the starting lineup. Floyd had not played for a week following the death of his father. The funeral was Saturday, and Floyd was expected to be activated Tuesday. "I talked to him [Sunday], and I think this is a relief for him in a way," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said. "Being able to come here and get his mind off his dad, and just relax and play baseball. I think this is good therapy for him."

"It's nice, you can get caught up in all the stuff that's going on and caught up in sitting at home," Floyd said. "These are the guys who stood behind me and backed me through this and were present during the funeral. I'm really blessed to have good people around me."

The Giants are playing much better baseball of late.  They are getting great relief pitching to lead the way. For the season, Giants relievers have stranded 126 of the 197 runners they've inherited (64 percent). "That's what wins games, what keeps you out of big innings," manager Bruce Bochy said. "It does so much for momentum of a ballclub. Giving up those runs, it can zap you a little bit."

Ray Durham said that finishing the season well would help give the Giants momentum heading into next season. Manager Bruce Bochy agrees saying,
"Part of any success you have, you want that confidence that it takes to win," Bochy said. "For the psyche of the club, it would be important."
