2010 NL CY Young
The CY Young award is awarded to the best pitcher in major league baseball. This award is the most prestigious award that a pitcher can receive and it is awarded in the National league and in the American league. In the National league last year Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants won the award edging Chris Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2010 it should be another tight race with all of the quality pitchers to choose from. Here is a look at some of the favorites to win the award in the National League and the current odds.
Roy Halladay—Philadelphia Phillies
Current Odds: 5/2
Philadelphia acquired Roy Halladay in an off-season trade involving the Seattle Mariners and the Toronto Blue Jays and he immediately became the favorite to win the National league CY Young award. He has nasty stuff and with a potent lineup backing him up the sky is the limit. Bettors must keep in mind he is switching leagues and will have to adjust to the switch and the small ballpark.
Tim Lincecum San Francisco Giants
Current Odds: 7/2
Lincecum also known as the “the freak” as won the award in back to back seasons so it only makes sense that he has another shot at winning the award. He was 33-12 in the last two years and led the league in strikeouts and finished second in ERA. As long as he is healthy he will always finish in the voting.
Johan Santana New York Mets
Current Odds: 12/1
If you’re looking for a dark horse to win the CY young look no further than Santana. His stuff is nasty and he is always in the top of all statistical categories. The Mets have struggled of late but if they can rebound and have a great year there is a good chance that his numbers will get even better. At 12-1 these odds cannot be passed up if you want to take a shot at a big payday.
These are the top three pitchers but there are plenty of other pitchers that deserve a quick look. Chris Carpenter (10/1) of the St. Louis Cardinals, he is the ace of the team, finished second in the balloting last year and is one of the best teams in baseball. Matt Cain (22/1) of the San Francisco Giants, scouts say that is stuff is just as good as Lincecum and at 22-1 the payday is pretty sweet. Finally Cole Hammels of the Philadelphia Phillies is 12/1, with Halladay coming over to the Phillies the pressure of being the ace is off his shoulders and that may allow for a great season!
When looking to place a wager on a pitcher to win the CY Young award make sure to do investigate the numbers and place your wagers wisely. With the right approach at the end of the year when the CY young award is announced it could mean a sweet victory for your bankroll!
